Vintage Moroccan Zaïane Carpet ZA10

An exceptional vintage Moroccan Zaïane carpet featuring a large scale lozenge network that appears to float on a more delicate stepped lozenge ground. The larger motifs are filled with various iterations of smaller lozenges, many divided into quadrants, lending a sense of rhythm and balance to the piece. Woven in a rich deep poppy red and charcoal grey. 100% wool of excellent quality with a lustrous hand.

tribe.

Zaïane

This tribe settled in the southern area of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their textiles are thinner than the northen Berber rugs due to the warmer climate. Red is generally the predominant color for these carpets, possibly due to the proximity of trade routes where these dyes were more readily available.
