Vintage Moroccan Zaïane Carpet ZA09

This extraordinary vintage Moroccan Zaïane carpet is a true collector's piece. A rich story is told through a variety of lozenge patterns, shifting in scale and style across the field. An intriguing break in the composition features a landscape of abrashed sunset oranges with floating Berber symbols resembling birds over architectural elements. Partial side borders of shifting motifs run along both selvedges. Palette includes faded purple, orange, brick red, sage green, pale ochre/yellow, black, and ivory. 100% wool with a beautiful patina. Note the carpet's exceptional width.

tribe.

Zaïane

This tribe settled in the southern area of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their textiles are thinner than the northen Berber rugs due to the warmer climate. Red is generally the predominant color for these carpets, possibly due to the proximity of trade routes where these dyes were more readily available.
