Vintage Moroccan Zaïane Carpet ZA05

A subdued example of a vintage Zaïane, exhibiting an overall intricate female lozenge pattern. Knotted in a time faded palette of faded magenta, fuchsia and pale gold, with a few strong areas of abrash created by dye lot variations. The carpet has an overall beautiful patina from age and wear. 100% wool.

Zaïane

This tribe settled in the southern area of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their textiles are thinner than the northen Berber rugs due to the warmer climate. Red is generally the predominant color for these carpets, possibly due to the proximity of trade routes where these dyes were more readily available.
