Vintage Moroccan Zaïane Carpet ZA03

A subdued example of a vintage Zaïane carpet, exhibiting an overall female lozenge pattern with random breaks in the network. Variations of filled lozenges alternate in horizontal rows across the field. Knotted in a time faded palette of magenta, apricot, celadon, and black, with a beautiful patina. 100% wool.

Zaïane

This tribe settled in the southern area of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their textiles are thinner than the northen Berber rugs due to the warmer climate. Red is generally the predominant color for these carpets, possibly due to the proximity of trade routes where these dyes were more readily available.
