Vintage Moroccan Tuareg Carpet TG02

A grand sized example, this Tuareg mat displays a spartan traditional motif structure of floating cross and lozenge forms. Large spaces of reed creates a neutral backdrop for the camel leather woven designs throughout. The oversized scale of this example is among the largest we have found to date. Excellent condition for a mat of this age.

The Tuareg people are a large Berber ethnic confederation. They principally inhabit the Sahara in a vast area stretching from far southwestern Libya to southern Algeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
