Vintage Moroccan Tuareg Carpet TG14

Woven by the nomadic Tuareg tribes of the Sahara with palm reed and camel leather, Tuareg mats offer an alternative to a traditional woven textile floor coverings. This grand scale example features multiple vertical bands of intricate motifs, with lozenges, meandering chains and zig-zag forms creating a minimalist composition. Large areas of negative space allows reed structure to peek through the mat. Some faint colors (red and warm brown) are present in the leather. Note the unusual large proportion of this piece.
