Vintage Moroccan Rehamna Carpet RH24

A vintage Rehamna exhibiting a pictorial composition of geometric forms and human figures capturing a moment of village life. The graphic organization reads like an urban landscape with squares, bars, and box formations in varying scales echoing architectural references. This piece exudes charm and joy (the dancers agreeā€¦can you spot all 6?). Woven in vibrant pink, red, salmon, faded lavender, charcoal, and dark brown. Areas of wear consistent with age and use. All wool with goat hair sawtooth selvedges.

This Arab Maqil tribe with Arabised Berbers lives on the Haouz plains north of Marrakech. Rehamna carpets are typically either a monochromatic ground field of red/orange (sometimes with small motifs), while others can take on a more abstract style, borrowing from the urban carpets of Rabat. The latter approach often exhibit motifs including undulating lines, lozenges, geometric triangles or squares, chessboard, and agricultural elements including animals and plant forms.
