Vintage Moroccan Rehamna Carpet RH16

This exceptional vintage Moroccan Rehamna features an abstract motif structure woven in a unique color story. Brick and open lozenge motifs are loosely arranged in stacked rows, resembling terraced houses in the Plains viewed from a distance. Knotted in a painterly palette of saturated red, pink, faded celadon, and black. A band of flat weave finishes the carpet on one end. Framed with bold sawtooth selvedges, common in pieces from this tribe. 100% wool.

Rehamna

This Arab Maqil tribe with Arabised Berbers lives on the Haouz plains north of Marrakech. Rehamna carpets are typically either a monochromatic ground field of red/orange (sometimes with small motifs), while others can take on a more abstract style, borrowing from the urban carpets of Rabat. The latter approach often exhibit motifs including undulating lines, lozenges, geometric triangles or squares, chessboard, and agricultural elements including animals and plant forms.
