Vintage Moroccan Rehamna Carpet RH05

This vintage Moroccan Rehamna exhibits loose meandering lozenge chains in between vertical bands of smaller networks. The central field of motifs is more abstracted, with vibrating symbols and some filled lozenges. A horizontal row of double triangles towards one end represents friendship and mating. Knotted in an unusual palette of loden green/grey, midnight blue (almost black), red, orange, and ivory. Flat weave bands finish the piece at both ends. 100% wool.

Rehamna

This Arab Maqil tribe with Arabised Berbers lives on the Haouz plains north of Marrakech. Rehamna carpets are typically either a monochromatic ground field of red/orange (sometimes with small motifs), while others can take on a more abstract style, borrowing from the urban carpets of Rabat. The latter approach often exhibit motifs including undulating lines, lozenges, geometric triangles or squares, chessboard, and agricultural elements including animals and plant forms.
