Vintage Moroccan Imouzzer-Kandar Carpet IK02

An unusual vintage Imouzzer-Kandar carpet woven with a mixture of goat hair and sheep's wool in black and shades of grey/brown. Male symbolism includes pronounced vertical bands with a subtle chessboard pattern in the weave. A very dense construction with a coarser hand, typical of goat hair pieces. Finished with a flat weave band at one end.

Imouzzer-Kandar

Imouzzer-Kandar is no stranger to Berber rugs...it has been a production center for hundreds of years. Many of the rugs from this village are of a traditional origin, while others have more exotic symbolism and rare color choices. The actual carpets bearing the name Imouzzer Kandar have not been produced since the Mid-20th century due to the migration of the weavers into other nearby tribes. This adds to the rarity of these carpets.
