Vintage Moroccan Guigou Carpet GG02

A lively and playful vintage Moroccan carpet from the small town of Guigou. The cascading motifs create movement and rhythm, further accentuated by the intersected shift that occurs toward the lower portion of the carpet. A network of open and closed diamonds reads like a code awaiting interpretation. Colors include charcoal grey/brown, salmon red, and sunny orange/yellow. The plied wool has a beautiful luster. 100% wool.

Guigou

This Middle Atlas Berber tribe produces a rustic variety of carpets using natural dyes. Some show signs of an oriental influence, perhaps due to the weavers viewing examples traded at Souks from nearby urban centers, where carpets from the eastern islamic regions are more heavily used. The blending of the Berber tradition and oriental color stories creates a beautiful combination.
