Vintage Moroccan Guigou Carpet GG05

A wonderful example of vintage Moroccan Guigou, this piece has a strong chevron pattern executed in an unusual color palette. Berber symbolism includes cross forms, zig zags and X motifs within the large chevron belts. The side borders change stylistically, adding some irregularity to the otherwise symmetrical composition. A deep palette of faded plum, fig, truffle, sable brown, salmon, magenta, cognac and a brilliant indigo make this a stand out carpet. 100% wool.

Guigou

This Middle Atlas Berber tribe produces a rustic variety of carpets using natural dyes. Some show signs of an oriental influence, perhaps due to the weavers viewing examples traded at Souks from nearby urban centers, where carpets from the eastern islamic regions are more heavily used. The blending of the Berber tradition and oriental color stories creates a beautiful combination.
