Vintage Moroccan Guigou Carpet GG17

An exceptional vintage Guigou featuring a large scale chevron pattern filled with classic symbolism including lozenges, cross motifs and triangles. The motifs shift in and out of focus across the composition, lending depth and texture to the piece. A colorful palette of fire red, magenta, indigo, celadon, and lavender is rendered with a detailed hand and subtle watercolor like approach. Constructed of all wool with a warm patina.

Guigou

This Middle Atlas Berber tribe produces a rustic variety of carpets using natural dyes. Some show signs of an oriental influence, perhaps due to the weavers viewing examples traded at Souks from nearby urban centers, where carpets from the eastern islamic regions are more heavily used. The blending of the Berber tradition and oriental color stories creates a beautiful combination.
