Vintage Moroccan Guigou Carpet GG13

A vintage Moroccan Guigou carpet featuring diffused chevron bands filled with Berber symbols, including cross forms and diamonds. Partial side borders containing branch motifs frame the field. An unusual colorful palette of abrashed plum, magenta, a striking saffron yellow, and deep teal are knotted in 100% wool. Subtle color shifts occur across the composition, adding depth to the piece. Finished with a flat weave band on one end.

Guigou

This Middle Atlas Berber tribe produces a rustic variety of carpets using natural dyes. Some show signs of an oriental influence, perhaps due to the weavers viewing examples traded at Souks from nearby urban centers, where carpets from the eastern islamic regions are more heavily used. The blending of the Berber tradition and oriental color stories creates a beautiful combination.
