Vintage Moroccan Boujad Carpet BJ51

This vintage Boujad displays an array of vertical bands containing lozenge chains in varying scales and representations. Some of the motifs are organized within blocks, creating strong geometric structure to the piece. A checkerboard band caps the carpet at one end. Woven in a unique palette of faded pink, salmon, bright pink, brick red, apricot, and charcoal. 100% wool with a time faded patina.

Boujad

An Arab urban center with both Arab and Arabized Berber tribes in the Haouz plains region east of Marrakech (between the Middle Atlas and Atlantic Ocean) named after the town of Boujad, which has an important carpet souk. Carpets from this region have similarities to those from the Middle Atlas, utilizing Berber motifs and similar structures, but tend to take on a more individualistic creative approach. Motifs are often distorted, and vast colors reflect an urban influence. These carpets can vary from an abstract side of weaving art to more precise symmetrical messages. Boujad carpets were not made for bedding but rather for use on the floor.
