Vintage Moroccan Zaïane Carpet ZA04

An excellent mid-century Zaiane with an abrashed field of tonal reds, orange, and highlights in ivory, black and faded grass green. Partial lozenges and bar motifs contrast against the vivid ground, appearing to continue far beyond the carpet's borders. Small areas of pile loss, consistent with age. 100% wool.

Zaïane

This tribe settled in the southern area of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Their textiles are thinner than the northen Berber rugs due to the warmer climate. Red is generally the predominant color for these carpets, possibly due to the proximity of trade routes where these dyes were more readily available.
