Vintage Moroccan Tuareg Carpet TG09

Woven by the nomadic Tuareg tribes of the Sahara with palm reed and camel leather, Tuareg mats offer an alternative to a traditional woven textile floor coverings. This example features 3 vertical bands of intricate motifs, with lozenges, meandering chains and zig-zag forms creating a minimalist composition. Large areas of negative space allows reed structure to peek through the mat. Some faint colors (red and warm brown) are present in the leather. Note the unusual square proportion of this example.
