Vintage Moroccan Tuareg Carpet TG08

Woven by the nomadic Tuareg tribes of the Sahara with palm reed and camel leather, these mats offer an alternative to a traditional woven textile floor coverings. This example features an unusually intricate composition of mostly leather, with lozenges and intricate chains, zig-zag and hamsa forms creating a strong visual message. Areas of pause in the weaving allow the reed structure to peek through the mat, creating moments of contrast. Some signs of use are present, adding to the patina of this example.
