Vintage Moroccan Guigou Carpet GG03

With a dense construction, the pile of this vintage Moroccan Guigou carpet has a very supple hand and silky luster. An overall chevron pattern is filled with Berber symbolism including zigzags, crosses, and X-shapes. Note the varying side borders and interruption at the base where the female chevrons meet the male zigzag form. A vibrant palette includes fire red, magenta, teal, sunny orange/yellow, salmon, aubergine, and light brown. 100% wool.

Guigou

This Middle Atlas Berber tribe produces a rustic variety of carpets using natural dyes. Some show signs of an oriental influence, perhaps due to the weavers viewing examples traded at Souks from nearby urban centers, where carpets from the eastern islamic regions are more heavily used. The blending of the Berber tradition and oriental color stories creates a beautiful combination.
