Horizontal bands of distorted lozenges and checkerboard motifs are interspersed across the vibrant field of this vintage Boujad carpet. Knotted in a vibrant palette of coral pink, red, orange, magenta, celadon green, yellow, sky blue, lavender and ivory. Knotted in a mixture of wool and cotton on a cotton warp.

Boujad
An Arab urban center with both Arab and Arabized Berber tribes in the Haouz plains region east of Marrakech (between the Middle Atlas and Atlantic Ocean) named after the town of Boujad, which has an important carpet souk. Carpets from this region have similarities to those from the Middle Atlas, utilizing Berber motifs and similar structures, but tend to take on a more individualistic creative approach. Motifs are often distorted, and vast colors reflect an urban influence. These carpets can vary from an abstract side of weaving art to more precise symmetrical messages. Boujad carpets were not made for bedding but rather for use on the floor.
